Diagnostic Hearing Evaluations
A comprehensive Audiological Evaluation will be completed by the Audiologist. Several tests will be administered to measure your ability to hear frequencies (tones) that are crucial to the understanding of speech. If warranted, extended high frequency audiometry will be performed. We will test your ability to understand speech in each ear in quiet and noise. A measurement of your comfortable listening levels will also be obtained.
If you suffer from Tinnitus, a Tinnitus Assessment will be performed. This includes a Tinnitus Handicap Inventory, Tinnitus Matching, Perceived Tinnitus Sensation Level and Tinnitus Masking. These findings will assist us in Tinnitus Management Recommendations.
After testing, the Audiologist will review your results with you in detail. Recommendations will be discussed.
Tympanometry is an examination used to test the condition of the middle ear and mobility of the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the conduction bones, by creating variations of air pressure in the ear canal.
Hearing Aid Consultation and Demonstration
If hearing aids are recommended, you will be scheduled for a Consultation. At that time you will be presented with a thorough overview of the various styles, technology levels and options that would be appropriate for you. At Advanced Audiology and Hearing Technology, we always strive to fit your hearing loss, your personal needs and your budget.
You will have the opportunity to listen to amplification, that will be programmed for your loss, to assist you in your selection.
Real Ear Measurements/Live Speech Mapping
As part of your hearing aid fitting, Real Ear Measurements will be performed.
Real-ear measurements (REM) are important because they measure how a hearing aid’s intensity (volume) and frequency response (pitch) are affected by your ear. When hearing aid manufacturers create a hearing aid and decide how to program it, they do so based upon an average shaped ear. Real-ear measurements allow us to apply the hearing aid fitting to your specific ear. Using real-ear measurements, we are able to measure how your ear affects the intensity and frequency response of the hearing aid and adjust the hearing aid settings based on that response. The results are hearing aid settings that are best suited for the size and shape of your ear as well as the degree of your hearing loss.
Live Speech Mapping is part of REM. It provides a real-world verification signal, human speech, and demonstrates amplification in real time. It also provides validation of the benefits of hearing instruments to the patient and can be utilized to demonstrate amplification of the voice of significant others.
Hearing Aid Dispensing & Fitting
The hearing aid dispensing will be a two-hour appointment. At this time, you will be trained over all aspects of function, care and maintenance. The aids will be programmed with you during this appointment to optimize your acceptance and success with amplification. Training on manual controls and phone apps will be completed.
We keep a supply of batteries for you to purchase in our office.
When additional hearing help is needed, we can offer you FM devices and Hearing Aid Accessories such as Remote microphones, TV transmitters, T-Coil and BlueTooth devices. Many hearing aids are now made for iPhone compatible and need no additional accessories to Communicate via BlueTooth with your cell phone.
